The Metro Edge Figure Skating Club is proud to announce that they have two new US Figure Skating Gold Medalists, Rebeca Serrano and Allie Rosemann. Both Rebeca and Allie have achieved gold medal status in ice dance by learning, mastering and testing 23 ice dances! Becoming a U.S. Figure Skating gold medalist is the culmination of many years of hard work and dedication. In a typical year, approximately 40,000 U.S. Figure Skating test levels are completed by athletes; of those, about 1,300, or 3 percent, are at the gold or senior level.

On July 20th Rebeca Serrano became MEFSC's third Gold Medalist in Ice Dancing. Rebeca also became a double USFS Gold Medalist on this day as she also holds a Gold medal in moves in the field. Rebeca is a sophomore at Cor Jesu Academy and has been skating since the age of 5. She skated on the Synergy Intermediate team last season and this year she is skating on the Synergy Junior team. Rebeca appeared as the Mouse Queen in last year's production of the Nutcracker on Ice. This year she will appear as the Sugar Plum Fairy. Rebeca would like to thank her ice dance coach Sima Baker for all her encouragement and support.

On September 15th Allie Rosemann passed her final Gold Ice Dance, making her MEFSC's 4th gold ice dance test medalist and the club's 4th double gold medalist. Allie is a freshman at Miami University where she is a member of the Miami Synchronized Skating Junior team. Allie has been skating since age 4 at the Webster Groves Ice Arena and has been a Metro Edge FSC home club member since she started competing in USFS at age 7. Allie's ice dance coach is Sima Baker, whom she would like to thank for all her encouragement and support. Allie would also like to thank Andy Stroup for his partner practice and coaching and Bonnie Stroup Basler who was her first ice dance coach.

Art and Air Volunteers

Recently, I received a note from Dave Buck, coordinator of the kids’ activities at the Webster Groves Community Arts Foundation’s Art and Air Fair. He was writing to say thank you to the skaters and parents who helped at the festival. He indicated that the volunteers were a great help, friendly, and very respectful of all the guests they worked with at the kids’ craft tent.

We all know that MEFSC/Synergy girls are fantastic. But, it is nice to hear someone else say it every once in a while. Thank you to Sam, Noel, Katie, Kelsey, Sarah, Annika, Missy, Eva, Dawn, and Abbie for your participation. We appreciate you representing us so well. This weekend, our synchronized skating competition season comes to an end at ISI Nationals in St. Peters. It has been a great year and I look forward to a fun and successful weekend. It will be sad to see our skaters performing a fantastic set of programs for the last time in competition.

Since the competition is being held in our own backyard, the St. Louis skating community has a great chance to demonstrate that we are a vibrant, supportive skating community. We have the opportunity to show clubs from all over the country how well our teams skate and how well we can support one another. To do so, we are asking that our skaters and families cheer for all the teams from the St. Louis area.

We talk a lot about good sportsmanship. We can demonstrate it in a myriad of ways from simply saying “nice skate” to refraining from criticizing an opponent’s performance, music, or costumes. While we may not mean any harm, criticism can sting skaters, parents and coaches. I hope we can all keep that in mind throughout the weekend.

In the end, Knute Rockne was right when he said, “One person practicing sportsmanship is far better than a hundred teaching it.”

Let’s have a great weekend.
On Thursday, our Intermediate team skated their “Disney” program to a bronze medal against some very tough competition. That is their second medal in two years! On Friday, our Novice team placed seventh in their division with their “New York” program. This is a fantastic accomplishment, especially for a team in only its second year in the Novice division.

We are so proud of all of our skaters, coaches, and supportive families.Michelle Dirksenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03509860889090182413noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8389342284470495541.post-55470645538719052272012-02-09T13:46:00.002-06:002012-02-09T13:46:56.022-06:00New Fundraiser OpportunityMEFSC Parents,

One of the great benefits of being a MEFSC member is the opportunity to fundraise and offset some of your skater’s expenses.

Would you like to earn money outside of just the RAMS games? Well now you can!

The number of parents interested in fundraising opportunities continues to increase and there will be one less RAMS home game next year because the RAMS will play one home game in London. So, we have signed up as a fundraising group with Busch Stadium. We have made a commitment to provide a minimum of 15 workers for 12 games during the first half of the season. At that time, we will evaluate the success of fundraising at CARDINALS games and make a decision whether to participate in the rest of the season, although there is no guarantee stands will be available for the remainder of the season.

This is a signed contract much like what we have with the RAMS fundraising opportunity. These 12 games meet our obligation for the year. So, we may only work these twelve games for the entire year.

ACTION REQUESTED:
1) Decide if you have interest in working all or part of the games listed in the attachment.
2) Complete the attached form and return to me. Complete games willing to work and training date.
3) Complete by Friday, February 17th.

If you have ANY interest in working CARDINALS games, please let me know as I plan to create a separate distribution list for emailing details.

Regards,
Matt
We have received several ideas from members and would now like for you to vote on your favorite! We like to keep the spring show theme pretty broad to provide skaters with a broad selection of music and allow skaters the opportunity to use music and/or costumes from current or past programs. Please take a moment to review these ideas and vote for your favorite by Friday, Feb. 10th. When voting on the theme, keep in mind there will be club groups formed to perform in the show as well as individual skaters and small groups performing in the show. The Preliminary and Intermediate teams earned gold medals and became the first ever sectional champs from the state of Missouri. Intermediate’s gold medal qualified them for Nationals. In addition, our Novice team took the Pewter medal and qualified for Nationals as well. This also marks a first. Our Intermediate and Novice team qualifications for Nationals mark the first time two teams from the same Missouri club qualified together. Finally, our Juvenile team had a great skate, their best of the year, in an incredibly difficult division and finished 9th.<span style="color: black; font-family: "Tahoma", "sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">

<span style="color: black; font-size: 12pt; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri;">Our club showing at “Mids” was a team effort. The team that I am talking about includes dedicated skaters, great coaches, and committed families. So, thank you.
