Saint Louis Synergy takes Two GOLD MEDALS, three SILVER, and ONE BRONZE in ISI SYNCHRO Nationals Competition
St. Louis, mo. April 2, 2012: Two Synergy Synchronized Skating Teams from the Metro Edge Figure Skating Club in St. Louis County recently took National Gold Medals at the Ice Skating Institute’s 16th Annual national synchronized skating championship hosted at the St. Peters RecPlex in St. Peters, Missouri. In all, over 898 competitors representing 31 ice rinks from 8 different states took to the ice as part of synchronized teams working together to wow judges and fans. The skaters from Saint Louis Synergy were thrilled to hear their teams called for the National Medals.
“This is so exciting, said Karen Giedeman, head coach for the Saint Louis Synergy Synchro Program at the Webster Ice Arena; the skaters on the Synergy Novice Team skated in the Teen Division and earned the GOLD Medal in the higher division. Our Juvenile Team, with ages 10-12, also skated up one level against older teams and won GOLD, too. Our Tot Team, Preliminary Team and IJS Training Team earned Silver National Medals, and our Beginner Team took the Bronze Medal. All six Synergy teams took the podium for medals. These skaters have worked so hard this season. What a great way to end our skating season.”
The Synergy skaters had the largest number of synchronized team skaters from a single rink participating in the competition, 76 skater, representing the Webster Groves Ice Arena, Webster Groves, MO. The icing on the cake was when our United States Figure Skating Intermediate Team, the current USFS National Bronze Medal team, was asked by the Ice Skating Institute to participate in the Saturday Night Exhibition.
“The girls had so much fun skating in an exhibition with the other synchro teams from around the country. The team really felt special – and the skaters had a great time.” Reported Ramona Peterson, Coach for the Synergy Intermediate Team.
Metro Edge Figure Skating Club started its synchronized skating program with only sixteen skaters in 1996. Since its inception, the program has grown to seven teams with over 100 skaters. All the teams participate in either ISI, Ice Skating Institute, or U.S. Figure Skating (USFS) venues. The teams have competed at the developmental, recreational, competitive and Nationally qualifying levels. Each Synchro team includes ten to eighteen skaters. Our six teams range in age from 4-18 years old. Team structures vary based on skill levels. The Metro Edge synchro teams have consistently placed in the top three at regional competitions and continue to receive podium finishes on the national level.
If you have skaters interested in Synchronized Skating, there are some upcoming opportunities for them to skate with the teams. First is the Saint Louis Synergy Audition Clinics. The FREE clinic starts on Monday, April 9th for our Novice and Junior level skaters. It will be held at the Webster Groves Ice Arena and will start at 6:45pm with Novice and 7:45pm for Junior level skaters. For more information, please check the website: metroedgefsc.org or if you have questions about the audition process please, contact our Director of Synchronized Skating, Coach Karen Geideman at kask8@yahoo.com.
Then, for our younger skaters, we have Skate with Synchro. This is a FREE event where all skaters in the St. Louis area are invited to come watch out teams perform, then go out on the ice and learn a few synchro moves and elements. Then perform the moves for the parents in the stands. Skate with Synchro is Thursday, April 12, 2012 from 5:00pm-6:45pm at the Webster Groves Ice Arena in Webster Groves, Missouri. Skate rental is provided. (Remember to bring a jacket and wear gloves. It’s cold in the rink.)
